Poffertjes – A row of Kiosk right before Puncak Pass

There was a time, when one of our team mates from MeaLovers’ went to Puncak with other members, early in the morning. The weather was chilly and made them hungry, they stop at Puncak pass at a line of food stalls before the Puncak Pass Resort entrance. They enter a food place where it sells variety of food from poffertjes, instant noodle, hot and cold drinks, barbequed corn, satay and other small snacks. This blog will discuss specifically about the small desert called poffertjes. It is a fluffy pancake originated from Netherland. Unlike other pancakes, they have a light, spongy texture. Typically, poffertjes are served with powdered sugar and butter. Poffertjes are not hard to prepare but a special pan is required. They use is a pan made out of cast-iron or copper. The pan is also available in aluminum, with Teflon-coating and several shallow indentations in the bottom.

Poffertjes taste different from regular pancakes. The taste of poffertjes is crispy on the edge and soft on center. This is what I enjoy crispy outside and soft and spongy texture inside. Enjoy it with a hot sweet tea which is sure to satisfy your tummy and also keeps your body warm and comfortable.
Here are places where you can enjoy poffertjes:

The atmosphere are like usual food stalls but it has a chilly weather in the morning, and a nice cool breeze. The space is quite large, and the people that serve the food are very kind. The place is recommended when you are way up to Puncak or on your way down to Jakarta. This is a good place to take a rest and enjoy some snacks in the cold weather.

The price is very affordable for workers and students, the food are from Rp 5,000 – Rp 10,000. As for the poffertjes is a bit higher for Rp 12,000, but it is a big size for 7 pieces per proportion.
